Dr. Alan Sasser was educated in the NC public schools, earned the bachelor’s degree at Wake Forest University, the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees at Southeastern Theological Seminary. His postdoctoral focus has been in the area of bioethics with clinical work at UNC-Memorial Hospital, Wake Forest University Medical Center, and the University of Virginia.
He served for 20 years as pastor of Baptist churches in NC and then spent 12 years in Higher Education on the faculties at UVA and Greensboro College. He was appointed to Cedar Cliff UMC in 2004 and came to Davis Street UMC in 2006.
He is an elder in full connection in the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Alan is married to the former Debra Hazelip and the father of two adult children, Joel and Leigh, who live in Atlanta, GA and Durham, NC respectively. |

Linda Hurdle attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She has served as a church secretary for over 15 years. She is a member of the Alamance County Church Secretary Association where she has served as president. She served on the board of the Allied Churches Christian Assistance Network. She is a member of Powerline Church of the Nazarene in Elon. She presently serves as our secretary and treasurer.
Linda is married to Brian Hurdle and mother of three adult children Brian Hurdle, Tara Brown and Robbie Hurdle, who all live in the Burlington area. She is also the grandmother to two precious grandchildren.

Brenda Wilson earned an associate degree at Chowan College, a bachelor’s degree at Elon College, and a Master of Arts degree in Sociology at University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Brenda has served on the Caring and Sharing, Allied Churches of Alamance County, and North Carolina State University Friends of the Library boards. She presently serves on the United Methodist North Carolina Conference Children's Ministry Team, and the Burlington District Christian Enrichment Committee.
Brenda is married to Butch Wilson and the mother of two adult children, Ed Wilson and Brian Wilson, who live in Burlington, and grandmother to three lovely grandchildren.

Penny Thompson is a graduate of Southern Alamance High School and attends Alamance Community College. She is a certified Healing and Touch Therapist with Hospice and presently serves as a Hospice volunteer.
She has served in various positions in the Burlington School system; as well as the director of various children and youth ministries at area churches.
Penny is married to Mike Thompson and they have three daughters, Katie, Elizabeth, and Sarah. She is a member of Bellemont United Methodist Church.

Gay and Al Trotter received Bachelor of Music degrees from Greensboro College in voice and organ/piano respectively.
Gay has served as organist for various churches for the past forty-five years. She presently serves as our organist and Director of Music Ministries. She is also the staff assistant for the Graduate Program in Religion at Duke University where she has been employed for twenty-seven years.
Gay is married to Reverend Al Trotter who serves as our volunteer choir director. Al received a Masters of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School in 1985. He is an elder in full connection in the North Carolina Conference of the Methodist Church. Reverend Trotter served churches for nineteen years before going on incapacity leave in 1999.
Gay and Al have two sons, Adam and Robert, who live in Chapel Hill, NC and Matthews, NC respectively. The Trotters enjoy traveling, gardening and reading.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Barr retired to North Carolina from New York State in 2004. Don was born in upper state New York near the Canadian border in the farming community of Three Mile Bay. Don farmed during his younger years and later worked for the State of New Hamphshire.
Nan, born in Latvia, lived in Germany during World War II, where as a young child, she often had to flee for her life. In 1950, she and her mother were sponsored by a lady in Queens, New York to come to America. Within five months, Nan learned English and became and US citizen. She attended Rhodes Secretarial School where she earned a secretarial degree and worked for Tenafly Bank in New Jersey.
Don and Nan have six children and five grandchildren who live all over the United States. They are a member of Cedar Cliff UMC where Don serves as a Trustee and both help with the church's quarterly breakfasts.
